    Exploring gender differences in bioinformatics research

    Women’s underrepresentation in science is an unfair situation apparent in different research fields. This article examines the problem of gender bias in the field of Bioinformatics. Through a quantitative study of more than 40K articles, we discovered that even when the difference between women and men representation in academic publications has been slightly reduced in the last years, men still dominate the scientific activity. We also found that publications led by female researchers are less recognized in terms of citations than articles led by male scholars

    La siguiente revisión sistemática se basa en la aplicación del sistema de encofrado metálico en un proyecto de multifamiliar donde damos a entender lo importante que es la partida de encofrado ya sea en la línea económica sino también en plazos del proyecto ya que te puede ayudar en acabar mucho antes el proyecto. Partiendo desde que antiguamente el encofrado fue con madera y en la actualmente ya se está utilizando el encofrado metálico comenzando en los proyectos de mayor envergadura; en algunos casos la partida de encofrado es mayor a la partida de concreto. Explicamos como el encofrado metálico puede ayudar económica y también reduce el plazo que tiene el proyecto que tenga la partida de encofrado, esto es debido a la versatilidad que tiene los paneles en acoplarse en las estructuras. Una de las problemáticas que se encuentran en obra es que las instituciones educativas no consideran en su plan estudiantil el tema de encofrado metálico y cuando el profesional comienza cualquier proyecto se encuentra con algo nuevo y es ahí donde comienza los errores ya que los operarios también desconocen y comienzan a maltratar los equipo sin saber que eso le genera un costo adicional al proyecto. Indicamos en que tipos de proyectos se utiliza mayormente el encofrado metálico ya sea edificaciones (residenciales, oficinas, centros comerciales, etc.) y obras civiles (minería, proyectos industriales, infraestructura, energía, etc.

    Analysis and improvement of business process models using spreadsheets

    Software in general is thoroughly analyzed before it is released to its users. Business processes often are not - at least not as thoroughly as it could be - before they are released to their users, e.g., employees or software agents. This paper ascribes this practice to the lack of suitable instruments for business process analysts, who design the processes, and aims to provide them with the necessary instruments to allow them to also analyze their processes. We use the spreadsheet paradigm to represent business process analysis tasks, such as writing metrics and assertions, running performance analysis and verification tasks, and reporting on the outcomes, and implement a spreadsheet-based tool for business process analysis. The results of two independent user studies demonstrate the viability of the approach

    Efeito de substâncias desinfetantes na adesão à dentina de um adesivo de quarta geração

    The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the influence of different disinfectant solutions on the tensile bond strength of a fourth generation dentin bonding agent. Forty non carious human molars were selected. Teeth were embedded in acrylic resin and ground until the exposure of a flat superficial dentin surface. Teeth were randomly divided in 4 groups and treated as follows: Group 1 - 2.5% NaOCl for 40 seconds; Group 2 - 2% chlorhexidine for 40 seconds; Group 3 - 1.23% acidulated fluoride for 4 minutes; and Group 4 - control (without disinfectant solution). Following treatments, Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus® (3M) was used according to the manufacturer’s instructions. After that, the test specimens were built with composite resin (Z100®-3M), using a standard Teflon matrix. The specimens were stored in distilled water for 24 hours at a temperature of 37ºC. The tensile strength test was performed using a Mini Instrom testing machine. The mean values obtained for each group, in MPa, were: Group 1 - 7.37 (± 2.51); Group 2 - 11.25 (± 4.65); Group 3 - 9.80 (± 3.11); and Group 4 - 10.96 (± 3.37). The results were submitted to statistical analysis using the ANOVA test, and no statistical significant differences among the groups were found. It can be concluded that the different disinfectant substances used in this research do not adversely affect dentin adhesion.O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar a influência de diferentes substâncias de desinfecção cavitária na resistência à tração de um sistema adesivo de quarta geração. Foram selecionados 40 molares humanos livres de cáries. Os dentes foram incluídos em resina acrílica e desgastados até expor dentina superficial. Os dentes foram divididos aleatoriamente em 4 grupos e assim tratados: Grupo 1 - NaOCl a 2,5% por 40 segundos; Grupo 2 - clorexidina a 2% por 40 segundos; Grupo 3 - flúor-fosfato acidulado a 1,23% por 4 minutos; e Grupo 4 - controle. Após os diferentes tratamentos superficiais o sistema adesivo Scotchbond Multipurpose Plus® (3M) foi aplicado na dentina, de acordo com as instruções do fabricante. Os corpos-de-prova foram confeccionados com resina composta Z100® (3M) utilizando uma matriz padronizada. Após armazenagem em água destilada por 24 horas, os espécimes foram submetidos ao teste de tração em uma máquina universal Mini Instrom. Os resultados em MPa para os diferentes grupos foram: Grupo 1 - 7,37 (± 2,51); Grupo 2 - 11,25 (± 4,65); Grupo 3 - 9,80 (± 3,11); e Grupo 4 - 10,96 (± 3,37). Os dados foram submetido à análise estatística de variância, a qual não permitiu detectar diferenças estatisticamente significantes entre os grupos. Foi possível concluir que as substâncias desinfetantes não ocasionaram alteração na capacidade adesiva do sistema adesivo de quarta geração empregado

Similarly, *382 million individuals live with diabetes, and 40–50% of the global population is labeled at ‘‘high risk’’ (i.e., prediabetes). The impact of these two chronic conditions relies not only on the burden of illnesses per se (i.e., associated increased morbidity and mortality), but also on their increased cost, burden of treatment, and decreased health-related quality of life. For this review a comprehensive search in several databases including PubMed (MEDLINE), Ovid EMBASE, Web of Science, and Scopus was conducted.     Fairness and Bias in Algorithmic Hiring

    Employers are adopting algorithmic hiring technology throughout the recruitment pipeline. Algorithmic fairness is especially applicable in this domain due to its high stakes and structural inequalities. Unfortunately, most work in this space provides partial treatment, often constrained by two competing narratives, optimistically focused on replacing biased recruiter decisions or pessimistically pointing to the automation of discrimination. Whether, and more importantly what types of, algorithmic hiring can be less biased and more beneficial to society than low-tech alternatives currently remains unanswered, to the detriment of trustworthiness. This multidisciplinary survey caters to practitioners and researchers with a balanced and integrated coverage of systems, biases, measures, mitigation strategies, datasets, and legal aspects of algorithmic hiring and fairness. Our work supports a contextualized understanding and governance of this technology by highlighting current opportunities and limitations, providing recommendations for future work to ensure shared benefits for all stakeholders

    Estrategias y Acciones Gerenciales de las Mypes peruanas frente al Impacto del Covid-19

    El presente trabajo se desarrolla en el contexto de la recesión económica que ha generado el COVID-19, el cual ha impactado de manera profunda y negativa en las finanzas mundiales. La infraestructura de las Pymes de Latinoamérica refleja carencias históricas que imposibilitan el diseño de sistemas efectivos de apoyo para hacer frente a los retos actuales. En el Perú, las Pymes son una parte fundamental para la economía, pero existe un gran índice de informalidad en el sector empresarial que influye la formulación de estrategias gubernamentales efectivas para reducir los efectos de la recesión económica causada por el COVID-19. En consecuencia, los responsables de las Pymes peruanas, se han visto en la necesidad de actuar en función de adoptar estrategias y acciones a nivel gerencial frente a los retos actuales. Consecuentemente, ha surgido la interrogante que da pie al desarrollo de la presente investigación: Describir las estrategias y acciones gerenciales de las Mypes peruanas frente al impacto del covid-19.
